Research Questions
- How do our nervous systems regulate in this dance?
- What is it like to be this intimate in a dance and not have narratives put on the research?
- How is each person affected based on the different kinds of touch?
- What does desperation and desire to be in touch or be without touch do to the dance?
Qualities of Touch Types
Skin:
- light as a feather, barely there
- soft grazes on the skin, almost ticklish
Flesh:
- this touch can heat the skin with friction, but doesn't take any weight
- like holding someones hand, or rubbing someone's back
- a soft touch, but firm reassurance that the other person is there with you
Muscle:
- same as flesh, but with more weight
- you can put pressure on your partners body so that there is mutual support
- feels more like a massage, slightly deeper into the skin
Bone:
- full body weight can be given here easily, you can stack on each other like blocks
- much more force behind the touch, pressure of touch creates sharp slips between bodies instead of smooth slides

Creators
Emily Deskin & Julia Elbert
This duet with Emily Deskin is a performance in research on the affects of touch on the human body. Here with you is our embodiment of non-sexual intimacy through contact improvisation. In this piece, Emily and I explore softness in our own bodies, as well as exploring each others bodies.
